Amazing

This is Frank's favourite song.

I love the attitude he has, and the back hair is like music to my eyes.

6 Things

So life is kind of exciting lately. In ascending order:

  1. Yes, I frickin joined facebook.
  2. Two people were let go from work yesterday (last in, first out). We lost a big customer. We're expanding operations - we're going to operate our own warehouse (across the street) very soon, and will start shipping some of our orders out of there in late April.
  3. I smashed my car. I'm fine, the other girl was fine, her car was a bit scratched, it's really too stupid to go into.

  4. Frank is working on a campaign for STAND, encouraging Canadians to Stand for the life of one Darfuri victim of genocide. They are telling the true stories of actual people who have died in Darfur, and the campaign is inspired by the drawings of children who have witnessed these horrible and violent things.

  5. Matthew is getting married. Holy smokes. Here's a fun weird trivia fact: He told me he got engaged Wednesday night, and that night we both dreamed about each other.
  6. We're going to Vegas next weekend for 3 1/2 days! Toronto, please work on melting all the snow away before we return.

Microsoft Songsmith

Sunday, January 25, 2009

Microsoft Songsmith is a Music Composition Software for Microsoft Windows, launched in early 2009. Songsmith immediately generates a musical accompaniment after a voice is recorded. The user can choose different styles of music genres either Pop, R&B, Hiphop, Rock, Jazz, Reggae, or the like and change the tempo of the song. Songsmith has a feature to change the properties of the song which is either to make it joyful, sad, jazzy, and so on.

The limitations of the software, and the misinterpretations of vocal melody without a backing track has led to a wave of demonstrations, wherein isolated original vocal tracks of well-known songs are run through Songsmith, resulting in grossly mismatched chord sequences.

340 days til Christmas

Sunday, January 18, 2009

Ok it's been awhile but it's also been less than 3 months so that's an accomplishment. Happy 2009! I spent my holidays in Europe and that was lovely. Highlights include:

  • eating a chocolate banana crepe while watching the Eiffel Tower sparkle at night

  • architecture

  • getting blown over at the top of a cold, snowy Swiss mountain
  • Roman history

  • gelato in the rain

  • Michelangelo's Pieta - I have never been moved by a sculpture before seeing this

  • not having anything stolen out of my lost luggage, which returned to Toronto 4 days after I did.

Other than that, we have also acquired a 40" LCD TV and home theatre system, a new sofa (yes, guests will be invited and welcomed shortly), I've actually seen and hung out with some friends recently (including you, yay you!), I have winter tires on my car (she is much happier), and I'm working a lot.

I'm going skydiving when it warms up. Who's in?

Monday morning

Monday, December 15, 2008

My attempt at moving that "creepyass picture" a little further down the page.

I should be filing my expenses or prepping for our Monday morning meeting, but I have been lacking in motivation for the last week and a bit.

It's allllmost Christmas. Toronto is not a very Christmassy city. I breezed in and out of Ottawa this past weekend and it is far Christmassier. My dad was away in Wales for a month and got back a couple weeks ago so I thought I ought to visit. I hadn't been back since September. Though I will be seeing my family again in only 9 days for our Europe trip. Excitement!

I don't have much to say. We are having our office holiday party this week. We are going bowling. I am one of the 4 team captains and so far I'd say I am the best trash talker. I got our team some mean temporary tattoos but don't tell, it's a surprise. I mostly plan to get drunk and talk trash, and maybe throw down a couple bowling balls. If you have any suggestions for badass team names, do share.

I can never think of titles.

1. Yay Alison!
I have a lot of dresses and wedding gifts to buy for next year. I should maybe put some money aside now to create a wedding fund.

2. Boo economy
I only found out this week how much my family has lost in investments. It is a very ugly picture. Much like this:
A very ugly picture

3. Yay double income!
Frank has been offered a full time job at JWT, and he accepted yesterday. He is a professional writer. Yesterday they had a holiday party for the staff's families/kids, featuring appearances by:

  • a baby Siberian tiger
  • a baby cougar
  • a wolf
  • a big snake
  • big disgusting cockroaches
  • a tarantula
  • a scorpion
  • a lemur

4. Boo I'm back to working all the time.
