Monday morning

My attempt at moving that "creepyass picture" a little further down the page.

I should be filing my expenses or prepping for our Monday morning meeting, but I have been lacking in motivation for the last week and a bit.

It's allllmost Christmas. Toronto is not a very Christmassy city. I breezed in and out of Ottawa this past weekend and it is far Christmassier. My dad was away in Wales for a month and got back a couple weeks ago so I thought I ought to visit. I hadn't been back since September. Though I will be seeing my family again in only 9 days for our Europe trip. Excitement!

I don't have much to say. We are having our office holiday party this week. We are going bowling. I am one of the 4 team captains and so far I'd say I am the best trash talker. I got our team some mean temporary tattoos but don't tell, it's a surprise. I mostly plan to get drunk and talk trash, and maybe throw down a couple bowling balls. If you have any suggestions for badass team names, do share.

I can never think of titles.

1. Yay Alison!
I have a lot of dresses and wedding gifts to buy for next year. I should maybe put some money aside now to create a wedding fund.

2. Boo economy
I only found out this week how much my family has lost in investments. It is a very ugly picture. Much like this:
A very ugly picture

3. Yay double income!
Frank has been offered a full time job at JWT, and he accepted yesterday. He is a professional writer. Yesterday they had a holiday party for the staff's families/kids, featuring appearances by:

  • a baby Siberian tiger
  • a baby cougar
  • a wolf
  • a big snake
  • big disgusting cockroaches
  • a tarantula
  • a scorpion
  • a lemur

4. Boo I'm back to working all the time.

Kick a ginger

The whole ordeal appears to be inspired by a recent episode of the popular animated TV show South Park. In the episode, the potty-mouthed character Cartman delivers a class presentation on "ginger kids." The episode refers to redheaded people as "nasty" and "born with a disease."

I don't understand what it takes to go from a joke to actually carrying out an act of violence... Facebook, apparently. Damn you, facebook.

39 days until Christmas

Sunday, November 16, 2008

I'm sorry for dropping off the face of the earth. I would like to be your friend again. Let's do something? I am trying to be better!

Same old excuse - work has been crazy. I don't see it getting un-crazy for another...maybe 8 months. Or ever. Being involved in a start up company has been exciting but stressful. I was kind of in a bad place about a month ago but things have gotten 100% better since then. I need to have a life again though. I've discovered this helps. Oh yeah, I went to LA last month and that was a lot of fun. Two days off to play and do nothing else was fantastic. I smelled the fires of Malibu and ate from a taco truck.

This past week Frank and I saw the Smashing Pumpkins and Bill Maher at Massey Hall (separately, one did not open for the other). I actually went out as well (hey, I saw John Sum on the street, anyone else remember him?) and came to work 40 minutes late and hungover on Friday. Had lunch with the old Anchor Bay crowd (sat next to the old boss - very awkward). I spent a lot of money on shoes. Last night we went on a double date and saw Quantum of Solace. Good movie. Hot hot.

My family and I are going to Paris/Beaune/Lucerne/Florence/Milan/Rome/Vatican for Christmas. I don't really know how we are going to see all these places in 10 days but it sounds very whirlwind. Christmas in Paris though, how could I say no? I will miss out on seeing everyone and the always fun New Year's party...but how could I say no??

Change is come to America. We're thinking of buying a big big TV. I've moved from the beaches to High Park. That's mostly it for me.

Update required

Monday, August 11, 2008

Sorry it's been awhile, busy busy. Updates:

  • Work is life. Life is work. I get home, I eat, I lay around, I sleep.
  • Birthday gathering: FRIDAY AUGUST 22, PICKEL BARREL @ ATRIUM AT BAY/DUNDAS SQUARE What time, I don't know, come drop by! Official evite to follow.
  • Went to Guelph yesterday to hang out with Ali. Alas, due to rain, there was no visit to the Donkey Sanctuary, and after looking at photos on the website I'm regretting this. They're so precious!
  • Hung out with some girl friends. Went drinking at a bar where I actually looked older than most of the people there. Damn we getting old.
  • Had a big family gathering BBQ at my cousin Justin's new home in Mississauga. Played with babies, ate cake, enjoyed the company of my family. And Frank came! He met everyone and survived.
  • Stayed home and rented movies.
  • Enjoyed the Dark Knight, and the very brief Harry Potter teaser trailer.
  • Changed my ringtone to "Don't You Want Me Baby" by the Human League.
  • Did not donate anything, did not run or bike any marathons, did not acquire any step-family members, did not purchase anything more exciting than towels.

My list sucks. I don't really do anything anymore (see point 1 above). Currently watching Olympics in the evenings.

If any of you know any nice, single boys in Ottawa between the ages 23-27 please set them up on a blind date with my sister. Thanks!

Blizzards in July

Tuesday, July 22, 2008

My friend Robyn here at work signed herself up for the DQ Blizzard Fan Club. Yes, they have a fan club. It's about as super lame as it sounds. But she loves blizzards very much, and you get free stuff when you sign up. So now she has two buy one get one free coupons to use before July 28. For 16 oz blizzards. This means we have 64 oz of blizzard between the two of us to eat before Monday.

Barf. I should start skipping lunch.

Strange teeth

Friday, July 18, 2008

I am in Ottawa now. I had some teeth work done yesterday and my mouth feels very foreign to me. You run your tongue over the same teeth every day for about 20 years and all of a sudden there's new stuff in there. I feel like I've got someone else's teeth in my mouth. It's very weird.

Last night my sister introduced me to the symphony orchestra in the park (Lebreton Flats). We ran into Sara's mom and Chris Demerse and his wife. I can't believe how many people were there. I think it's a great idea though. The night was really nice too. A good hour and a half (plus encore) of free opera.

Ryan Gosling

Tuesday, July 15, 2008

I have a new coworker who talks like she is on speed and lots of other drugs. She ambushed Steve and he came to my office all bug-eyed and said he hadn't had coffee yet and it was too early for that kind of introduction.

She could be very useful if she is on speed.

I had a very elaborate dream last night in which Ryan Gosling was my boyfriend. It was very movie-like, complete with score and everything. It had a rather tragic but poignant ending that made me wake up feeling very sad. It would make an excellent drama and I think it could be an Oscar contender, possibly for best picture and/or best actor (Ryan Gosling). It was also beautifully shot and directed. Maybe I will take it to some of my colleagues who work on the film production side of our business. I'm told he gives his plot outlines to a script-flesher-outer who can write it all up properly.

I'm taking the new car to Ottawa Thursday morning. Want to do something this weekend?

Bwaaaaaaaaaaaa

Simon says quantity over quality, right?

WORK IS BUSY

I don't deal well with stress. And it's only just begun.

My boss gives me blank cheques so I can pay myself.

I ate a dilly bar today.

Frank's got a sweet internship. Bring home the bacon bits, man!

Bacon is the most delicious of all meats.

Hurray for Sara caving to peer pressure!

Karen gimme a call when you're in town this weekend eh? Got my cell number?

Happy Birthday Karen!

Made you a little cake.

Oh the pressure

I went to another wedding this weekend. Well, more of an after party. Phil and Hollie "eloped" in May and got married in Malta.

They brought back a video of their ceremony (which was unintentionally hilarious - Phil managed to work in the phrase "well, not in a stalker kind of way" into his vows) and invited friends and family to a community centre in Mississauga. I can tell you there were no pyrotechnics, that's for sure. A much more informal but more personal kind of gathering. And surprisingly, the food was way better than the fancy pants wedding two weeks ago.

Another wedding in September. I guess I'm just at that age now. Demetrius and Nikki (who are getting married next year they say) were grilling me about my wedding. Leave me alone!

Happy Day

Our widdle Gwegowy Wodewick is alll gwowed up!!

(I dunno, I did a Google image search for Greg Roderick, but she doesn't really look like Laura does she?)

YARIS

Monday, June 23, 2008

The newest addition to the Muriel family:

I'll pick her up on Friday, and then Frank and I will be driving back to Ottawa with the Nissan to return to my parents. My first car! Next on the list: Audi R8, list price $139,000.

This weekend we also attended the wedding of my previous co-worker. I was expecting a big Italian wedding, but had no idea we would be treated to such a flashy show. In addition to the big ice sculpture of a swan and the two huge thrones for the bride and groom, there was also a fire-y chef demonstration/show complete with pyrotechnics. Like this:

..except like, 10 feet away from me. The words "unnecessarily ostentatious" may have been used. Crazy.

Dear Simon

Hello friend, how are you? I am eagerly awaiting the announcement of your new blog, though I am sure your lady companion is a very high priority as well. If it would help in your time management I can create a blog for you and write about your life as I imagine it. It would not be nearly as poetic unfortunately. You have led the blog way and we await your return with bated breath.

HE IS COME!

Procrastinating

Monday, June 9, 2008

I have a lot of TO DO's on my work list but I don't want to look at it, so I'll talk about my weekend. Last night Frank and I went to see R.E.M. and Modest Mouse and The National at the Molson Amphitheatre. Aside from the weather it was a good show. I'm not exactly the number one fan for any of those bands but the collective lineup was enough to get me to go. I could sing along to enough of their songs. Michael Stipe is a pretty fun front man to watch. They've been around long enough. I think they know what they're doing.

I also test drove the Honda Fit this weekend. Sara, you were right about it being jerky, but I was impressed enough with the rest of the car's features that it hasn't been eliminated from the running yet. Hopefully I will hit up Toyota and Nissan next weekend.

Subconscious blast from the past

Thursday, June 5, 2008

This will only ring a bell for a few of you at most, but I had a dream last night that I was back in university (lord knows why, I do hate school). I had come out of the library and ran into a couple of people from my classes, and they were with a friend...who happened to be [censored]. Hahaha. And I was like, "[censored]! How the hell have you been!" It was weird. I wonder if he would even remember me. He was so cute.

This kind of makes me want to reactivate my facebook account and look for him. I will restrain myself for now.

Where is everyone else's blog?? I thought we had a deal, people! Don't let me down now.

I'm very excited because I have just discovered that Journey (YES, JOURNEY!) is coming to Toronto in September, with Heart and Cheap Trick. I'm there.

I'm going to see the Kooks tonight. I hope no one wins the Stanley Cup while we're out.

Ok now listen to some music. I like seeqpod. I tried to add this widget to my sidebar but it's too fat and I can't, so I wrote to seeqpod telling them so and they're sending me a t-shirt. Sweet! I should file this post under "Greg".

Scissors

Friday, May 30, 2008

I like a new pair of scissors. I like the feel of cutting paper. I like the quiet but satisfying "snniiip" sound. I like to cut slowly to relish the feeling.

I also love olives.

This is a contest, isn't it?

Tuesday, May 27, 2008

Caroline's blog is way better than mine. I am, however, very excited about the prospect of a Montreal girls' weekend. Summer, anyone?

So I started a new job last month. Things are still kind of slow but at least the office is functional now. My task this week is to work on the new release budget. God how I love budgets.

Things are also becoming a little clearer in terms of the company structure and my responsibilities. We have two companies in our building related to home video. The one I work for is the distribution company. It turns out we are set up to distribute any packaged good, not just DVDs. Eventually we might be doing shirts, toys, who knows what else. My role is all about Walmart. I never would have thought 10 years ago that I'd be a Walmart slave. Lame. If I close my eyes and ignore the fact that my life is all Walmart, everything else about the job is good so far.

Now for your enjoyment, here are photos from the Dead Sea.

Let's see how long I keep this up. I just came back from Egypt. It was wonderful. Maybe you will see photos soon.

Maybe I'll join Facebook too.
